No recent survey rating.
Rates come from standard DNR survey gear (gill nets, trap nets, electrofishing), judged against statewide benchmarks for the same gear, so the same number of fish per net can read differently for two species. Where the standard gear can't count a species reliably, only presence and size are listed. Typical is the middle fish of those measured. Open a row for the full length spread, survey by survey.
How to fish Eagle Lake through the year
Walleye
- Spring
- Walleye are shallow, on and just off the spawning flats and the first green weeds. At 10.9 ft of clarity, fish them deeper and lighter than usual.
- Early summer
- Walleye are setting up on the outside weed edge, points and shallow structure.
- Summer
- Walleye are working the weed edge, points and any wind-blown structure.
- Fall
- Walleye are packing onto the sharpest breaks and points as the water cools, in big schools with short windows.
Northern pike
- Spring
- Pike are in the shallow bays and along new weed growth. At 10.9 ft of clarity, fish them deeper and lighter than usual.
- Early summer
- Pike are on the outside weed edge and points.
- Summer
- Pike are on the deep weed edge and points near the coolest water they can find.
- Fall
- Pike are on the last green weeds and the breaks beside them, feeding heavily as the water drops.

MN DNR · in their words
From the 2023 survey
Eagle Lake is a 312-acre lake located two miles west of Frazee. The city of Frazee owns the park and public access on the southeast shore of the lake. The south and west shores are heavily developed while the north and east shores are lightly developed, with the exception of an RV campground on the north shore. Submerged vegetation is common throughout near shore areas. A standard fisheries survey was completed in August 2023 to assess the fish populations in Eagle Lake.
Anglers will find a high number of Northern Pike in Eagle Lake, however, most of these fish will be on the small side. The catch rate of Northern Pike in the 2023 survey was the highest ever observed for Eagle Lake. The average size of the pike captured was 20 inches, but one 36-inch pike was measured. Walleye numbers were average for the lake and the size was good. Almost 98% of the Walleye captured in 2023 were over 15 inches and 59% were over 20 inches. Bluegill numbers were down for the lake and most of the fish were small. Only one percent of the Bluegills caught in trap nets were over eight inches. The longest Bluegill measured in 2023 was 8.5 inches. Black Crappie and Largemouth Bass were captured in low numbers in the nets, which is often the case with this sampling gear. Black Crappie up to 13 inches were measured and Largemouth Bass up to 17 inches were captured. Other fish species observed were Black, Brown, and Yellow Bullhead, Hybrid Sunfish, Pumpkinseed, White Sucker, and Yellow Perch.
